From the Seller

“Dolcetto is grown almost exclusively in northwest Italy's Piedmont region, despite increasing interest in the grape from the US… sippers with expressive cherry, berry, and plum notes supported by hints of herb and spice. In some cases, winemakers strive for reds with greater concentration and structure.”Wine Spectator

Bingo! Our first Discovery Day of 2025!

Trust your Agents of Wine! Meet the more traditional counterpart to Meeker's "Hooky" carbonic Dolcetto. With a solid 93 from Wine Enthusiast!

This does not undergo carbonic fermentation, and makes it a fun one to compare.

Meeker is the ultimate boutique address in the idyllic Sonoma countryside. They’ve been making wine since 1984 and today it’s a multi-generational family affair. Lucas Meeker grew up at the winery, and learned the ropes from his father, growing up with terroir in his blood.

Meeker likes to experiment, and making Dolcetto in California certain qualifies as a brave move. I know some of you have never even had a Dolcetto and are wondering what it's even like. While this doesn't have that brighter fruit character of the Hooky, it does ooze with sappy red and black berries. Sweet rawhide, black currants, red raspberries, and melted black licorice come into plain view. Imagine a Syrah and Pinot had a baby, and you can get an idea what to expect here.

These wines won’t be repeated, and who knows what the next vintage will bring. But this right here is a juicy little gift for your tastebuds. And at our price it’s a gift for your wallet, too.

93 Points—Wine Enthusiast “This wine is vibrant, with aromas of ripe plum, cherry, raspberry, violet and pepperjam on the nose. Flavors of bramble blackberry, black currant confiture and crystalized ginger slide into pomegranate, malt chocolate, dried herbs and citrus rind on the finish. Aerate for 30 minutes and pair with lamb meatballs.”
