2018 Carol Shelton Rockpile Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
From the Seller
APPY HOUR with a very special Carol Shelton!
Why? Because:
- They have quickly risen in popularity to become one of our most requested wineries lately.
- We caught their inventories at rock bottom without a single wine long enough to last the day.
- All are too yummy to pick one over another, so we’ll be moving through them as they sell out.
Giveaways for the quality and complexity that you can always count on with Carol’s winemaking…
Especially her ever-so-beloved Rockpile Reserve Cab! The 2015, 2016, and 2017 vintages of this same wine did not last long on our site, and neither will this. Napa Cabs, there is a new sheriff in town. It packs an abundance of crème de cassis, plum preserves, Black Forest cake, cigar box, and pencil shavings with even more youthful oomph. Full-bodied too, with a solid line of chewy tannins and lively acidity, there are plenty of black fruit and earth layers, all culminating on an exotically spicy, mineral-laced finish. So much to love here, and a few years of age has done wonders in attaining the irresistibly silky texture. Hear the Wine Enthusiast out and “Drink this with a coffee crusted ribeye!”
It’s our/your day. Arguably the greatest Sonoma Cabernet value you’ll ever come across. The price tag you see here are the lowest today, tomorrow, basically anytime they will ever be.
We really don’t have the space here to list all Carol Shelton’s accolades. And surely not enough of this wine to waste more time. But know this - she's a true legend. A few noteworthy ones include The André Tchelistcheff Award in 1993, Winemaker of the Year by Press Democrat in 1999, San Francisco Chronicle in 2005, and NorthBay biz in 2022 and 2023.
For this crazy price, a wow wine indeed, the score just does not do it justice. Going, going…
92 Points – Wine Enthusiast “Aromas of crème de cassis, blackberry, dark chocolate and licorice mingle and swirl on the nose of this Cabernet. The palate brings more intense black fruit character with rich tannin and enough juicy acidity to balance the wine through a very long finish. Drink this with a coffee crusted ribeye!”
